Resorbable or non-resorbable suture?

Resorbable sutures do not need to be removed – the body breaks them down within the time specified by the manufacturer. Non-resorbable sutures do not degrade, so they are removed once the wound has healed; they are traditionally used in tooth extractions, implant placement, and flap and periodontal surgery.

  • LUXCRYL PGA – braided, coated polyglycolic acid suture; ~70% of tensile strength retained after 14 days, resorbed in ~60–90 days. USP 4/0 and 5/0, 19 mm needle.
  • LUXCRYL PGA Rapid – fast-resorbing: ~50% of tensile strength after 7 days, resorbed in ~42 days. USP 4/0, 19 mm needle.
  • LUXAMID – nylon monofilament with a smooth surface causing minimal tissue reaction. USP 3/0, 19 or 24 mm needle.
  • SILK BLACK – braided, silicone-coated black silk, easy to tie and highly visible. USP 2/0 and 3/0, 24 mm needle.
