Description
Cutanplast Dental is an absorbable gelatin sponge of animal origin manufactured by the Italian company Mascia Brunelli S.p.A., designed to control bleeding in dentistry and oral surgery. Once soaked with blood, the sponge provides a surface for platelet aggregation and helps activate the coagulation cascade, thereby helping to stop minor venous or arteriolar bleeding when conventional hemostasis methods (suturing, pressure) are difficult to apply.
The sponge is supplied in 10 × 10 × 10 mm pieces, 24 pcs per box; it is convenient to use after tooth extractions or minor surgical procedures in the socket. The sponge can be used dry or moistened with sterile saline, is easy to cut into pieces of the required size with sterile scissors and adheres little to surgical instruments. When used correctly, the sponge is fully absorbed by the body, and according to the manufacturer, hemostasis is usually achieved within 5–10 minutes.
According to the manufacturer, the blood-soaked sponge helps achieve hemostasis within 5–10 minutes.
According to the manufacturer, it absorbs up to 50 times its own weight in fluid.
When used correctly, the sponge is absorbed by the body within 3–4 weeks, so separate removal is usually not necessary.
Easily cut into pieces of the required size with sterile scissors; does not crumble and adheres little to instruments.
